Why Refer a Client to Treatment Abroad
For some clients, particularly those who have tried treatment closer to home without lasting change, or whose recovery is complicated by their immediate environment, treatment abroad can offer a genuinely different starting point. Moving away from the routines, relationships, and triggers connected to their condition, even temporarily, can help a client engage more fully with treatment.
At The Beekeeper House, that distance is paired with accredited, internationally delivered care, so referring abroad does not mean a trade-off in clinical standard. Our team works in English, holds international training and qualifications, and is experienced in supporting clients from the United Kingdom, Australia, and the United States specifically, including the practical side of travelling for treatment.

What to Expect From Our Assessment Process
Every client receives a comprehensive medical and psychological evaluation to establish whether detoxification is needed, what level of medical support that requires, and the clinical approach that is right for them. This assessment shapes the entire treatment plan and ensures your client receives appropriate care from day one.
-
Stage one
Initial Consultation
A free, confidential conversation by phone or video to understand your client's background, history, and current needs. This is when we discuss treatment options and answer any questions about the process.
-
Stage two
Clinical Assessment
A thorough medical and psychological assessment to determine whether detox is needed and what level of medical intervention is required. Straightforward detox is managed on site under 24-hour supervision.
-
Stage three
Treatment Planning
Complex cases requiring higher medical intervention are referred to our partner hospital, Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai, before stepping down into our residential programme. Each client's plan is individualised to their clinical needs.
Our Approach to Treatment
Our therapeutic approach is eclectic, drawing on psychodynamic psychotherapy, dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), somatic work, and Eastern mindfulness traditions, so a client’s plan reflects what is clinically appropriate for them rather than a single fixed model.
Across every approach, our team works from the same underlying pillars: empathy, compassion, inclusive and affirming care, and building a client’s own sense of self-efficacy in their recovery.

Programme Length
Our residential programme has a minimum stay of 35 days, including medical detox where it is needed. Many clients benefit from a longer stay, and we often recommend around 90 days where clinically appropriate; longer stays are broadly associated with more durable recovery outcomes in the wider literature, though the right length for any individual client depends on their specific needs and is agreed following assessment.

Our Three Programmes
-
Stage one
Detox programme
Medically supervised detoxification, tailored to the client, delivered by our licensed detox facility.
-
Stage two
Residential programme
Full-time, immersive treatment at our centre in the mountains of Mae Rim, Chiang Mai, combining individual and group therapy, holistic wellness, and structured time to rest and recover.
-
Stage three
Aftercare programme
Ongoing, structured support after discharge, connecting clients to recovery pathways both internationally and, where helpful, within Chiang Mai.
Your Client’s Weekly Programme
During the residential programme, your client’s week follows a consistent structure, giving them the routine that supports recovery, with space built in for rest, reflection, and free time.

Professional Referrals for Treatment Abroad: Frequently Asked Questions
Why would I refer a client to treatment abroad rather than locally?
Treatment abroad can give a client distance from the environment and relationships connected to their condition, alongside accredited, internationally delivered care. It is one option among several, and our admissions team is happy to discuss whether it suits a particular client.
How do I refer a client to The Beekeeper House?
You can refer a client by phone, by email, or using our online referral form. Our admissions team will discuss your enquiry with you and arrange an initial assessment for your client.
What information do you need from me as a referrer?
We ask for your details as the referring professional, along with your client’s details and a brief description of how we can help. Our admissions team will guide you through anything further that is needed.
How quickly can a client be assessed and admitted?
Timelines vary depending on individual circumstances, including any medical detox needs. Our admissions team will give you a clear timeframe once they have spoken with you about your client’s situation.
Will I be kept informed about my client’s care?
With appropriate consent from the client, our clinical team is happy to communicate with referring professionals about a client’s progress and care.
How much does treatment cost?
Treatment is tailored to each client, so the cost depends on length of stay and the level of care required. We do not publish prices online, but our admissions team will provide a clear, all-inclusive quote during a free, confidential consultation.
Is my client’s treatment confidential?
Yes. Privacy and discretion are central to how we work. A client’s treatment, and the fact that they are receiving it, remain confidential throughout their stay and beyond.
How do you measure and report your outcomes?
We assess every client on arrival and reassess them throughout treatment using validated clinical measures, including GAD-7 for anxiety, PHQ-9 for depression, and CORE-10 for general psychological distress. We publish these outcome figures as measured, including the clinical thresholds they are set against, rather than an unverified summary claim.
We treat every client as a whole person, addressing mind, body, and spirit together rather than treating a single diagnosis in isolation.
Our admissions team is available to talk through a potential referral, answer clinical questions, and support you and your client through every step of the process.
