Our approach

Residential Alcohol Addiction Treatment at The Beekeeper House

Set in the mountains of Chiang Mai and accredited to AACI Gold standard, we bring together medical care and evidence-based therapy in a calm, private environment where recovery can take root. Speak to our admissions team today to learn about our simple admissions process and how treatment could work for you.

Alcohol dependence rarely responds to willpower alone. As the body adapts to regular drinking, stopping can bring on withdrawal, and for people who have been drinking heavily for a long time this can become dangerous. Our residential programme treats alcohol addiction fully, in a safe and medically supervised setting, away from the triggers of daily life.

Treatment begins with a thorough medical and psychological assessment, with particular attention to whether a supervised detox is needed. Where it is, our Medical Director develops a personalised plan and oversees every stage to protect your safety and comfort. From there, we guide you through an individualised programme that helps you understand how your drinking developed and how to move beyond it.

Our minimum residential stay is 35 days, which gives you time to detox safely, address the underlying causes of drinking, and build the coping skills that support lasting recovery.

The condition

What Is Alcohol Addiction?

Alcohol addiction, clinically known as alcohol use disorder, is a treatable health condition in which a person finds it difficult to control their drinking despite the harm it causes. It can affect anyone, regardless of age or background, and often develops gradually, beginning with ordinary social drinking and shifting slowly into dependence. Because it can be high-functioning and easy to hide, it often goes unaddressed for years.

How Alcohol Dependence Develops

As the body adapts to regular drinking, more alcohol is needed to feel the same effect, and stopping begins to produce withdrawal. The relief that another drink brings can quietly reinforce the cycle, which is one reason dependence is so hard to break without support.

Treatment

Our Alcohol Addiction Treatment Programme in Thailand

Lasting recovery means addressing both the physical and the psychological sides of dependence. Our approach is integrative, combining medically supervised detox, clinical psychology, and holistic care, all tailored to your individual needs.

  • Stage one

    Medically Supervised Alcohol Detox

Detox is the essential first stage, allowing alcohol to leave the body while withdrawal is managed safely. Because alcohol withdrawal can be serious, everyone is medically assessed before detox begins. Detox takes place on site under 24-hour medical care, overseen by our Medical Director, Dr Paritat Silpakit, with medication used where clinically appropriate to keep you safe and comfortable.

  • Stage two

    Therapy and Psychological Treatment

Once detox is under way, therapy addresses the reasons behind the drinking. You will have extensive one-to-one time with your psychologist, alongside group work, drawing on evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioural therapy and mindfulness-based skills.

  • Stage three

    Holistic and Wellness Therapies

Alongside clinical treatment, our Holistic Wellness programme supports your physical and emotional health through yoga, meditation, breathwork, sound healing, movement, somatic practices such as TRE (Trauma Release Exercises), and more, helping you rebuild a stable and healthy routine.

Dual diagnosis

Treating Co-Occurring Mental Health Conditions

Many people who struggle with alcohol also live with anxiety, depression, trauma, or a mood disorder, and drinking is often a way of coping with them. This is known as dual diagnosis, and each condition can worsen the other, which makes treating them together essential.

As a centre that specialises in both addiction and mental health, The Beekeeper House treats co-occurring conditions within a single integrated programme, so that you leave with a solid foundation for lasting recovery rather than a partial solution.

Questions

Alcohol Addiction Treatment Thailand: Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long is the alcohol rehab programme at The Beekeeper House?

Our residential programme has a minimum stay of 35 days. This gives you time to complete a safe detox, understand the causes of your drinking, and build the coping skills that support lasting recovery. The length of your programme is tailored to your clinical needs following assessment.

  • Is alcohol detox medically supervised?

Yes. Everyone is medically assessed before detox begins, and detox takes place on site under 24-hour medical care, overseen by our Medical Director. Where clinically appropriate, medication is used to manage withdrawal symptoms and keep you safe and comfortable.

  • Is it dangerous to stop drinking suddenly?

It can be. For people who have been drinking heavily over a long period, stopping suddenly can bring on serious withdrawal, including seizures, which can be life-threatening. This is why we medically assess everyone before detox and provide supervised care, and why we would encourage you not to attempt detox alone.

  • What are the withdrawal symptoms of alcohol?

Withdrawal can include cravings, anxiety, restlessness, sweating, nausea, and tremors, and in more severe cases confusion or seizures. Symptoms and their severity vary from person to person, which is why a medical assessment before detox is so important.

  • Why travel to Thailand for alcohol rehab?

Thailand offers accredited, medically licensed care of an international standard, often at a lower cost than equivalent private treatment at home. Travelling also creates distance from the routines and triggers linked to drinking, which many people find helps them focus fully on recovery. The Beekeeper House is AACI Gold accredited and staffed by an internationally trained, English-speaking team.

  • How does admission work if I am travelling from overseas?

It begins with a free consultation and clinical assessment by phone or video, so your programme is planned before you travel. Once your place is confirmed, our admissions team guides you through travel and arrival so that the journey is as straightforward as possible. You can reach us on dedicated lines for the United Kingdom, Australia, and the United States.

  • Will the clinical team speak English?

Yes. Our clinical team is internationally trained, with psychologists from the United States, Australia and New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. All treatment is delivered in English.

  • How much does alcohol rehab in Thailand cost?

Treatment is tailored to each person, so the cost depends on your length of stay and the level of care required. We do not publish prices online, but our admissions team will talk you through everything and provide a clear, all-inclusive quote during a free, confidential consultation.

  • Can you treat alcohol addiction alongside depression, anxiety or trauma?

Yes. Alcohol and mental health conditions often go together, and drinking is frequently a way of coping with anxiety, depression, or trauma. As a centre that specialises in both addiction and mental health, we treat both together within one integrated programme, which gives you a stronger foundation for long-term recovery.

  • What support is available after I leave?

Recovery continues after residential treatment. Every graduate leaves with a structured aftercare plan that may include the My Beekeeper app, a residential step-down at The Reset Bali, our RISE online continuing care programme, sober living at Embrace Sober House in Chiang Mai, and an independent Continuing Care Partner near home in the United Kingdom, United States, or Australia.

  • Can my family stay involved while I am in Thailand?

Yes. With your consent, we keep loved ones informed and involved throughout your treatment, which matters when family are supporting you from another country.

  • Can I use my superannuation to fund treatment?

Australian clients may be able to access their superannuation early to fund addiction treatment on medical grounds. Our admissions team can talk you through eligibility and the application process.

  • Is it safe and legal to travel to Thailand for rehab?

Yes. The Beekeeper House is a medically licensed and AACI Gold accredited residential facility. Our admissions team can answer any questions about travel, what to bring, and any medication you are currently prescribed, so that everything is handled correctly before you arrive.

  • Is my treatment confidential?

Yes. Privacy and discretion are central to how we work. Your treatment, and the fact that you are receiving it, remain confidential throughout your stay and beyond.
