Our Integrative Approach
The Beekeeper House is a leading, award-winning residential mental health and addiction treatment centre in Thailand, welcoming clients worldwide.
Two Sides of the Same Coin
At The Beekeeper House, we have seen first-hand that the most fruitful recovery occurs at a junction where two seemingly different paths cross. That junction is our integrative approach: the bringing together of contemporary psychology and time-honoured Eastern philosophies, so that each strengthens the other.
Our approach to treatment is integrative: we bring together contemporary clinical psychology and time-honoured Eastern philosophies, and we treat each person as a whole, inclusive of the mind, body, and spirit.
We measure what this means for our clients using validated clinical measures, and we publish the results.

What Do We Mean by an ‘Integrative Approach’?
Our approach to treatment is integrative in three senses: we practise a variety of therapeutic modalities, we blend clinical psychology with Eastern philosophy, and we treat human beings as a whole, inclusive of the mind, body, and spirit. What unites all of these efforts is a commitment to empathy and a focus on compassion.
Experts in the Field
The Beekeeper employs over 60 people across South East Asia. Our team is made up of a variety of experts in their field, including clinical psychologists, medical doctors, nurses, and social support staff. All of us are driven by a commitment to client wellbeing, empathy, and happiness.
The integrative approach is The Beekeeper way. It was developed by us, and it is practised by our 14 clinicians, both in Thailand and regionally.

Principal Care: Clinical Psychology
Our integrative approach programme was developed by experts. It was designed by experienced doctors, psychologists, clinicians, and nurses, and clinical psychology is the principal care at its centre.
We believe that certain clinical components must be part of the recovery process to support long-term recovery. These components are set out below.
-
01Expert Clinicians at PhD and Master’s Level
Our clinicians are qualified at PhD and Master’s level. Without the proper training and qualifications, it is not possible to diagnose or treat the issues that underlie addiction and mental health conditions. The Beekeeper House has clinicians who are specialised in a range of disorders and in trauma resolution.
-
02Comprehensive Planning and Assessment
Every client receives a comprehensive assessment by a clinician, who is paired with a medical and psychiatric provider. Together they follow each client through their entire stay and into aftercare. This process allows the clinical team around each client to build a treatment plan that encompasses all dimensions of the individual.
-
03An Eclectic Approach to Therapy
We take an eclectic approach to therapy that draws upon diverse, evidence-based approaches in clinical psychology. Our clinical team is trained in a variety of approaches, and we do not overly rely on one particular approach, such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) alone. We make sure the approach fits the needs of the client, delivered through individual sessions, group therapy, and, where clinically appropriate, VR exposure therapy.
-
04Trauma-Informed Care
Trauma-informed care is available from our expert clinicians for clients who need specific support in this area. We recognise that this can be an important part of an individual’s recovery journey.
-
05Co-Occurring Disorder Treatment
At The Beekeeper House we work to heal the entire individual, not just the addiction or behaviour. We treat underlying issues, such as trauma, depression, anxiety, and other mental health or neurocognitive issues, which are also called co-occurring disorders.
-
06Psychiatric Consultation and Collaboration
Psychiatry is available to our clients if they need it, and all clients will receive a psychiatric evaluation if required. We work with psychiatrists who have specific expertise in addiction and associated mental health issues.
If we are facing in the right direction, all we have to do is keep walking.
Complementary Care: Eastern Philosophies and Practices
One of the major benefits of our integrative approach is the blending in of Eastern approaches. These practices aid emotional regulation, which helps us to get through daily life and also the more challenging phases we might face. They allow individuals to better understand the connection between mind and body, and to bring about change from within by using the innate resources we already possess as human beings. This can have a profound and positive impact on the ongoing recovery process.
-
Meditation
Clients are able to experience different types of meditation practice, led by our local experts. Research suggests that meditation can support better decision-making, as well as helping people to feel more centred and calm.
-
Mindfulness
Our clients are guided in mindfulness, which is achieved by focusing awareness on the present moment while calmly acknowledging and accepting feelings, thoughts, and sensations. It is used as a therapeutic technique.
-
Yoga and Movement Classes
Clients take part in yoga and movement practices that create mental clarity and calmness, increase body awareness, relieve chronic stress patterns, relax the mind, centre attention, and sharpen concentration.
-
Sound Baths
We hold regular sound baths. In theory, the vibrations lead you deeper into a state of contemplation or relaxation, quietening the body’s fight-or-flight reflex. A 2020 research review that analysed four studies reported improvements in distressed mood, tension, anger, and confusion in participants after a sound bath with Tibetan singing bowls.
-
Philosophy Studies
For clients who wish, we offer classes with local Buddhist nuns and monks, or instructors, in the philosophy of loving-kindness and compassion, and in other principles of Buddhist philosophy and practice.
-
Massage and Relaxation
Many of us can benefit from massage. It is a good way to support wellness and to help with pain. We offer regular massages to our clients as part of their overall wellbeing at The Beekeeper House.
Centred in Evidence
Clinical psychology is widely recognised as an effective and critical part of the healing and recovery process. The power of Eastern philosophies and practices is often underestimated, despite growing evidence to support their value, ranging from anecdotal accounts to peer-reviewed studies.
Our integrative approach gives both their place, with clinical psychology as the principal care and Eastern practice as complementary care alongside it.
